Monday, January 8, 2018 Public Service Commission President Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh (R) has officially qualified with the Alabama Republican Party to run for Lieutenant Governor in the 2018 Republican Primary.

“It is important for our state to have a strong conservative fighting for us and providing leadership in the Lieutenant Governor’s office,” President Cavanaugh said in a statement. “Alabama needs to see conservative solutions when it comes to jobs, the economy, infrastructure and rural broadband, education, eliminating government waste, and much more. It is time for Alabama to take charge of its own education system and produce a top-notch, trained workforce. With education as a priority, we will grow existing businesses and expand industrial recruitment. I look forward to continuing to lead on job creation in the Lt. Governor’s office.”

Cavanaugh’s campaign continues to claim “significant advantages in name identification, grassroots support, number of donors, and fundraising momentum compared to the other candidates in the field.” Cavanaugh is the “prohibitive favorite” by prominent Alabama political analyst Steve Flowers.

“This election will be about our Alabama families,” Cavanaugh said. “With proven conservative leadership, together, we will build a brighter Alabama for our children and grandchildren.”

Cavanaugh was the first woman to serve as the Alabama Republican Party Chair.  She is also a former co-chief of staff of Governor Bob Riley (R).

Cavanaugh is running against State Senator Rusty Glover (R-Semmes) and state Representative Will Ainsworth (R-Guntersville) in the Republican primary for Lt. Gov.

The major party primary is June 5, 2018.
